Sprint Expects to Launch Cable Services by mid 2006
5:45 am on January 9, 2006 | Category: Business, Telecom Services
A recently announced joint venture between Sprint Nextel and a number of America’s top cable companies is expected to roll out the first of its products and services by the middle of this year.
The venture’s newly appointed president, John Garcia, says that the first offerings will include common voicemail for cellular and digital phone subscriptions, as well as free calling between these subscriptions, and the ability to check cable email on a cell phone. Video on demand services will also be thrown into the mix in the not-too-distant future.
Cable companies involved in this venture, which hasn’t yet been named, include Cox, Comcast, Time Warner, and Advance/Newhouse Communications. It is hoped that this large-scale joint effort will help all parties compete with telephone rivals such as AT&T and Verizon.
