VoIP telephony leader, Vonage has been carefully tracking its progress towards meeting the FCC’s enhanced 911 emergency service requirements, and claims to have made great progress in recent months.

Vonage has now set up e911 emergency service at 1900 official public-safety answering points (PSAPs) throughout the US, including 41 PSAPs in the past week alone. Executives claim that this represents the company’s willingness to comply with the FCC order, and the general rush within the industry to bring VoIP emergency access up to standard with that of regular phone lines.

Emergency operators can now accurately pinpoint the location of VoIP callers in most major cities and towns across Canada and the United States, and e911 support is being extended further into rural areas on a daily basis. To see if your area is supported, please visit the Vonage website.
