South Korean technology companies are working to make Seoul the world’s most wireless city by the end of this year. If all goes according to plan, Seoul will be home to both WiMAX and HSDPA wireless broadband networks in the very near future.

Samsung is currently getting ready to capitalize on this growing trend in wireless technology by designing new smartphone and notebook computer models that will work with both HSDPA and WiMAX. Such models were demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show held earlier this month in Las Vegas.

In addition to launching compatible hardware, Samsung has been working with telecommunications companies around the world, including Sprint and BT, to conduct field trails of the 802.16e mobile WiMAX standard.

Samsung executives believe that this early involvement with cutting-edge wireless standards in South Korea, will help them gain a competitive advantage with these standards as they become more prevalent in other markets such as Europe and North America.
