AOL has revealed its latest vision for instant messaging – a new version of AIM, especially for enterprise-level users. Developed in conjunction with online meeting specialist, WebEx Communications, the new AIM Pro service will become available in the second quarter of this year.

It will give businesspeople the security, collaboration, and IT management features that they need to use the world’s most popular instant messaging platform in their workplaces.

For many offices, this will merely be an upgrade, as a lot of workplaces have already adopted AIM for business purposes. The new version will eliminate a lot of the difficulties that IT departments have with its consumer counterpart, by allowing for easy and secure management of IM communication logs.

AOL has partnered with a number of IM gateway providers to make the new platform more controllable. Microsoft was also consulted to ensure compatibility with the Microsoft LCS enterprise-messaging platform.

AIM Pro will be offered in two different versions: Professional for individuals and SMBs, and Enterprise for large corporate customers. Final pricing details haven’t yet been released, but they will most likely be based on a monthly per-user subscription model.
