A company based in New Jersey called Audible has announced that it will soon begin selling subscriptions to a comic internet broadcast called “The Ricky Gervais Show.”

Currently the world’s most popular podcast, The Ricky Gervais Show was created by the makers of the popular BBC comedy series, The Office.

Although most internet audio recordings are offered for free, Audible believes that this particular piece of programming is marketable. Two seasons of the show will be offered: one at the end of this month and the other in the fall. Listeners will pay a cost of $6.95 per season, or $1.95 for each individual episode.

The concept of podcasting has become increasingly popular in the past couple of years, with millions of podcasts being downloaded every week. The success of paid podcasts like this one will be of huge consequence to the profit potential of the internet broadcasting industry in the years to come.
