Japanese cell phone provider, DoCoMo, claims to have attained wireless data speeds as high as 2.5Gbps, while testing its new 4G mobile technology.

The speed was achieved by increasing the number of MIMO (Mobile Input Mobile Output) antennas from four to six on each device.

This impressive new technology far exceeds DoCoMo’s previous record of 1.5Gbps, which it attained in May 2005.

DoCoMo says that it will continue its research and development efforts in order to be an active contributer to the global standardization of 4G mobile technology.
