Hitachi Announces Smallest Ever Wireless IC Chip
6:15 am on February 7, 2006 | Category: Wireless TechnologyJapanese electronics manufacturer, Hitachi, has announced its recent completion of the world’s smallest wireless integrated circuit chip.
The newly developed chip measures just 0.0059 inch square, with a thickness of 0.0027 inch, less than that of a newspaper page. This is considerably smaller than Hitachi’s previous IC chip, the 0.015 inch square “mu-chipâ€.
Although Hitachi says that mass-production of the new chip is still a few years off, but that further details will be revealed at the Solid-State Circuits Conference in San Francisco.
When it is fully released, this tiny integrated circuit chip will be incorporated into bank notes, securities papers, and other official documents, so as to easily detect forgeries.
