Mobile Television and Web Browsing Coming to the Nintendo DS
1:30 pm on February 16, 2006 | Category: Mobile Devices, Telecom Services, Web ServicesJapanese console maker, Nintendo, has announced that users of its DS portable gaming system will soon be able to watch high-definition television and browse the web on the device.
“These products propose a different use for the DS in entirely new fields,” said Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, in a recent news conference.
For a web browser, the device will use a mobile version of Opera, which will be sold as a DS card for a cost of 3800 (about US$32). This will be available beginning in June.
Nintendo didn’t give many details on the television feature, but said that plug-in antenna cards would be available by the end of the year.
The new products will initially only be available in the Japanese market, but will likely expand to other countries if proven a success.
