Report Predicts Increasing Popularity of Digital Video Recorders

A recent study from consulting firm, The Carmel Group, suggests that digital video recorders will gradually become commonplace in American living rooms over the next few years.

The study claims that the market penetration of DVRs in the US will grow from the current figure of 14% to almost 50% of television-owning households by the year 2010.

More and more people are recognizing the benefits of DVR technology, which allows users to record hours of television programming, fast-forward through ads, and pause live TV.

“DVRs are nearly unstoppable as the natural replacement to the VCR,” the report said. “The sales crossover of VCR and DVR will take at least 10 years to transition but without question it will occur.”
