A recent survey of Video-On-Demand customers shows that the majority of users would prefer free, ad-supported VOD services.

According to the E-Poll survey, most users are drawn by the ability to watch movies on their own schedule, but don’t want to pay for that privilege. This is definitely good news for the advertising industry, and provides another video advertising option, aside from traditional cable television.

The survey also found, however, that a lot of users were disappointed by the content offered through currently available Video-On-Demand services. Providers will need to offer a wider range of both general and specialized video content if they hope to pose any real competition to existing cable and satellite television companies.
