Visto Sues Good Technology over Mobile Email Patents

Mobile email company, Visto, which is currently in the process of suing Microsoft for patent infringement is now taking similar actions against Good Technology.
The suit alleges that several of Good’s products, including the popular wireless messaging application, GoodLink, are in violation of five of Visto’s patents. Visto is now seeking a permanent injunction against the products, as well as unspecified financial damages.
“We have made tremendous technological and financial investments since 1996 and we refuse to allow others to benefit freely from our hard work and commitment to innovation,†said Visto’s president and CEO, Brian A. Bogosian. “Good Technology, like other late entrants to this market, has no patents directed to wireless e-mail and very clearly infringes on our long-held intellectual property.â€
Lawsuits from companies like Visto, and their infamous ally, NTP, are causing numerous customer concerns in the wireless email market. Whether their patents are genuinely being infringed upon is up to the courts to decide, but the fact remains that ongoing lawsuits usually aren’t a good thing for either shareholders or customers.
