WiFiber Provides Lightning Fast Wireless Data Speeds

7:00 am on February 27, 2006 | Category: Wireless Technology

A new wireless broadband technology standard from telecom startup, GigaBeam, is beginning to gain recognition for its extremely high potential data transfer speeds.

The “WiFiber” technology is able to transfer data at a speed of over a gigabit per second, which is considerably faster than DSL, and even some fiber optic cable technologies.

WiFiber operates in the virtually uninhabited 70 to 95 gigahertz frequency range, allowing it to avoid most kinds of electromagnetic interference. This extremely high frequency is near the same rate as visible light, however, meaning that poor weather conditions could have an adverse effect on data transfer speeds.
