Asian Countries Collaborate on Faster Wireless Data Standard
8:00 am on March 28, 2006 | Category: Wireless Technology, Telecom Services
Three major Asian wireless markets, Japan, China, and South Korea have made plans to work together on establishing a common technology for faster mobile data transmission.
The countries will conduct a joint study with the end goal of allowing for mobile data access as fast as fiber optic broadband networks.
If a common standard can be agreed upon, it will further improve the highly advanced wireless data networks available in Japan and South Korea, while giving even more potential to the Chinese market.
China’s government is soon expected to grant its first 3G spectrum licenses to wireless carriers, and the fact that China is participating in this study suggests that it wants to catch up quickly to its neighbors in terms of mobile data speed.
