Carriers Blame Developers for Low Quality Mobile Games
7:45 am on March 23, 2006 | Category: Mobile Devices
Representatives from several major wireless carriers discussed the mobile gaming landscape yesterday at GDC Mobile 2006, and agreed that developers need to improve the quality of the games they produce.
Speakers from Cingular, Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel, Virgin Mobile, and Orange all said that it is up to developers to be more innovative and come up with high quality games backed by unique ideas.
“We reject about 30 games a month because so many of them are offering the same gameplay over and over again,†said Sprint Nextel’s general manager for games and entertainment, Jason Ford. “Lots of these games just aren’t fun, offering wretched controls. Many of them are mediocre at best.â€
The general consensus between the providers seemed to be that it is much better to offer subscribers a few high-quality games, rather than lower their standards for the purpose of quantity. The representatives also agreed that it is important to organize and sell games in a simple and coherent manner.
