After years of shying away from the satellite phone industry, global satellite communication company, Inmarsat, has announced possible plans to begin offering a satellite phone service by 2008.

The company is considering using its network of satellites to create a hybrid satellite/ground-based voice and data communication network. This network could also be used to provide aircraft phone service around the globe.
