A recent study by internet giant, Google, suggests that most UK residents are now spending more time using the internet than watching television.

British internet users now spend an average of 164 minutes a day online, compared to 148 in front of the television. Men spend somewhat more time surfing the web than women, with respective usage of 172 to 156 minutes.

Better broadband technology is largely responsible for the increase in internet usage in both residential and commercial settings. Telecom regulator, Ofcom, reported recently that there are now over 10 million broadband connections in the UK, a number which has seen massive growth, while television audiences have declined slightly since late 2003.
