Microsoft Planning All-in-One Mobile Entertainment Solution
6:30 am on March 23, 2006 | Category: Mobile Devices
Microsoft is reportedly working on an all-in-one handheld entertainment device that will include music, video, and gaming functions, and compete with the Apple iPod, as well as Sony’s PlayStation Portable.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, the software giant is still in the early stages of its plans, and a product likely won’t hit the market for at least another year or two.
This is exciting news on the horizon, however, as Microsoft has previously kept its game consoles separate from mobile products, and a converged device could be a major competitive threat to a number of companies already in the industry.
The project is reportedly being led by Microsoft vice president, J Allard, and several other people from the team that created the Xbox and Xbox 360 video game consoles.
