Motorola CEO’s Earnings Down 29%
5:45 am on March 14, 2006 | Category: Business, Corporate
The CEO of America’s largest handset maker, Ed Zander, saw his total compensation from the company drop by 29% in 2005, to $20.7 million.
This drop is not due to a drop in Zander’s official salary, which forms less than 10% of his gross earnings, but comes as a result of a smaller bonus, and fewer stock options being awarded. It seems that in the upper echelons of the wireless industry, one’s income isn’t quite as predictable as that of the common employee.
“The board unanimously believes that Mr. Zander’s compensation is appropriate to help ensure that he is rewarded for effectively leading this company and is in line with other CEO packages,†said a statement from Motorola.
Although seeing his income decline by nearly 30% in one of the wireless industry’s biggest ever growth years might be a little frustrating for Zander, he’ll probably sit tight for the time being. After all, when your average income well exceeds $1.5 million a month, it’s not that easy to complain.
