Nokia Opens Cell Phone Factory in India
5:15 am on March 14, 2006 | Category: Business, Mobile Devices
The world’s largest cell phone maker, Nokia, has opened its first handset factory in India.
This move makes a lot of sense for Nokia, which is trying to make headway with users in emerging markets throughout the world. India is currently the world’s fastest growing wireless market, adding an average of 4 million new mobile phone subscribers each month.
It definitely makes sense for Nokia to localize its production within India, so as to produce more of the low-cost handsets that are in such demand in the country. Manufacturing locally has the potential to lower production and shipping costs, and make it easier to sell entry-level phones at rock bottom prices.
