Samsung Electronics and Avaya Inc. have recently signed a contract to jointly develop and market converged IP communication solutions to business-level clients.

Beyond just integrating their technologies, the two companies will work together to develop a range of new voice and video products, in an attempt to combine Avaya’s good reputation in VoIP with Samsung’s position in the mobile communication industry.

In the short term, the deal will help Avaya build its presence in the fast-growing Asia Pacific market, with Samsung marketing the VoIP company’s IP telephony solutions in Korea. The partners will then go on to market both individually and co-branded communication solutions in Asia and other markets.

“This agreement enables us to increase our global competitive advantage in IP communications and further strengthen our position in the Asia Pacific region,” said Avaya Chairman and CEO, Donald K. Peterson in a statement. “Our reputation for innovation and communications solutions that improve business operations will bring new advantages to Avaya and Samsung customers.”
