Sling Media, Inc., released a new version of its Slingbox personal television application on Wednesday, which allows users to wirelessly beam television programming from their televisions to any compatible mobile phone.
The new software is called SlingPlayer Mobile, and will be available as a free download until April 26, after which the price will go up to a one-time fee of $29.99. It works with the Slingbox player, which sells separately for $249.99.
SlingPlayer Mobile is compatible with any Windows Mobile-powered mobile smartphones with either a Wi-Fi or cellular broadband internet connection. It works with cable and satellite television, as well as digital video recording technologies like TiVo.
“We do feel that people are very excited that you can turn a regular handheld into a mobile television,” said Sling Media spokesman, Brian Jaquet. “We really feel strongly that people want their own television and own programming whether it’s live TV, video on demand or recorded content wherever they go.”
