South Korean Cell Phone Users Get Free Mobile TV
1:55 pm on March 17, 2006 | Category: Telecom Services, Mobile Devices
Wireless video is off to a strong start in South Korea, where mobile phone users are now able to watch free live television feeds over the country’s government-backed DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) network.
The government-subsidized service has been available in the South Korean capital of Seoul since January, and although not totally free of glitches, it has become a fan favorite among users.
Many customers who use the network actually claim that it offers a comparable viewing experience to watching a normal television. Although DMB-compatible phones are slightly more expensive than most other models, free TV seems to be incentive enough to get users interested in the technology.
