Sprint Nextel Plans Better-Than-3G Mobile Multimedia Network
6:20 am on March 16, 2006 | Category: Wireless Technology, Telecom Services
Sprint Nextel Corp. recently reiterated plans to go beyond existing 3G technology with a super-high-speed multimedia network for mobile phones, using a variety of radio communication technologies over the 2.5GHz wireless spectrum.
Officials at the company say that the new network will be up and running by mid-2009, and will reach “no less than 15 million Americans.” It will offer similar speeds to those of cable modems (2Mbps to 4Mbps), directly to mobile phones.
This will be done using a combination of WiMAX, Flash-OFDM, and other wireless technologies.
Full details on the company’s plans are available at Light Reading.
