Canada’s third largest wireless operator, Telus Mobility, has launched Canada’s first wireless music downloading service, similar to Verizon’s V Cast offering in the US.

The Telus Mobile Music offering will run over a CDMA 1xEVDO network, enabling fast download speeds of 400 to 700 kbps in large cities, and 144 kbps in other regions. It is being offered as the latest service in the Telus SPARK solution, which already involves mobile TV, wireless gaming, and more.

Each song downloaded with the new service will cost $2.49, including a $0.50 download fee. This gives users copies of a song for both their mobile phone and PC.

The announcement of this new service co-incites with Telus becoming exclusive provider of the LG 8100 mobile phone in Canada. The 8100 handset is described as a “mobile entertainment and communications device packing an MP3 player, stereo speakers, Bluetooth functionality and much more.” The “much more” includes a 1.3-megapixel and a miniSD expansion slot.

Telus plans to sell the LG 8100 for just $99.99 with a three-year contract. It will be available in both black and white design schemes.
