Communication software maker, Jajah, has launched a first-of-its kind VoIP offering that connects two landline phones over a packet-based IP network.

The new service allows users to enter their own landline phone number, and the number of the phone they wish to call. Jajah will then automatically connect the two lines over an IP network.

The beta version of this innovate new service has already been launched at Jajah.com, and can be used from any computer, without needing to download any special software.

Jajah had already launched a cheap PC-to-PC calling service last summer, but co-founder, Roman Scharf says that he has since realized how crowded the online VoIP market really is. “It’s no good if you have a service that only works because it’s cheap,” Mr. Scharf said. “There’s always somebody who is cheaper.”

The company claims to have had great success with this brand new service, which costs just 1.7 cents/minute for domestic US calls, and 1.9 cents/minute to call Europe.

Jajah’s next challenge is to boost consumer awareness of the new service, and compete with such giants as Yahoo, Skype, and Vonage.
