VeriSign Buys Mobile Content Provider, m-Qube
6:20 am on March 21, 2006 | Category: Business, Mobile Devices
VeriSign has announced an agreement to buy out privately held mobile marketing leader, m-Qube, in a cash acquisition worth $250 million.
In addition to its mobile marketing ventures, m-Qube also helps other companies with the development, deployment, and billing of various types of mobile content, including messaging and other applications. Some of its clients include CBS, Reuters, Sony Pictures, Warner Music Group, Virgin Mobile Canada, and Telus Mobility.
Acquiring m-Qube clearly fits in to VeriSign’s overall plans for the mobile phone market. It already owns ringtone provider, Jamster, and recently purchased 3united Mobile Solutions, an Australian company that offers premium wireless content and mobile commerce applications.
“VeriSign is combining its world-class expertise, applications and infrastructure to make content convergence over any network and any device a reality,” said VeriSign’s general manager and executive vice president, Vernon Irvin.
