Verizon Communications CEO, Ivan Seidenberg says that he’s still very committed to the telecom giant’s plans to build a multibillion dollar fiber-optic cable network spanning across the United States.

Critics haven’t been too optimistic about the plans recently, saying that conducting huge broadband network expansion could divert Verizon from other important areas, including wireless.

Seidenberg, however, believes that a faster broadband network will pay off in the long run. It will also allow Verizon’s DSL network to keep up with the increasingly fast broadband internet services being offered by cable companies like Comcast.
