Wireless carrier, Vodafone Group, has announced a new UMTS-based music service, which they are calling “Vodafone Radio DJ.”

This new radio offering will let customers in six European countries listen to pre-set mobile radio stations, or create personalized channels based on their own preferences.

The pre-set channels cover several genras, including rock, pop, hip-hop, party music, soft rock, and chart hits. Users can then customize these channels by choosing a decade, and specifying a music style to match their mood, with possible selections including relaxed, romantic, happy, powerful, and melancholy.

Users are given the option to rate individual songs, and use the “like it” and “never again” buttons to customize future listening. A marketing component has been cleverly integrated into the service, with information about song artists, and direct links to a mobile music shop.

Vodafone Radio DJ will be available on a daily or monthly subscription basis, and will be rolled out in France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and the UK over the next few months.
