Internet giant, Yahoo, has brought the beta version of its PC-to-Phone voice messaging services to users in the United States.

Yahoo! Messenger with Voice 7.5 was previously made available in six European and Asian markets, but is only now being made available to American users. The new version lets customers place calls to landline phones in the US, Canada, and the UK, for as little as $0.01/minute, and call people in 27 other countries for $0.02/minute or less.

There is also an option for users to pay $2.99/month or $29.90/year, and get a dedicated phone number for their computer.

These newly launched pay services are designed to compete with eBay-owned internet telephony provider, Skype, which also offers free PC-to-PC voice communication, and low-cost PC-to-Phone calling.

Yahoo claims that its new Messenger product is 20% to 30% cheaper than the SkypeOut PC-to-Phone offering, and hopes to capture the interest of users around the world as the service is extended to new markets.
