Yahoo Extends VoIP Service to Siemens Cordless Phones
7:30 am on March 9, 2006 | Category: VoIP, Web Services
Yahoo and Siements Communications revealed at the CeBIT trade show today that Yahoo would be extending its VoIP service to work with Siemens Gigaset Cordless Telephones.
Starting in the third quarter of 2006, the companies will jointly offer a special USB adapter, which will ensure compatibility between Siemens cordless phones and Yahoo Messenger with Voice. Customers will be able to use the Gigaset M34 adapter to make free PC-to-PC calls with any Siemens C-Class cordless handset.
This extension of Yahoo’s popular instant messaging service will likely make its VoIP component more usable for mainstream consumers.
“Our collaboration with Siemens enables us to offer our Yahoo! Messenger with Voice services beyond the PC, on additional devices,†said Yahoo’s vice president of Communications Products, Brad Garlinghouse, in a statement.
“Working with Siemens will greatly increase the potential for new and existing users to take advantage of our rich communications suite,†Garlinghouse added. “Today’s announcement is a first step in a relationship that will expand and continue to benefit both Yahoo! and Siemens customers for a long time to come.â€
