Niche-based Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), Amp’d Mobile, has just raised another $150 million in venture capital funding, from big name investors like IntelCapital and Qualcomm.

Amp’d, which is a reseller of Verizon’s services, has been quite successful in marketing its media-heavy wireless packages, and increasing the popularity of mobile music and video services.

Some analysts, however, believe that Amp’d will need to dilute this focus and branch out into other areas, so as to avoid poaching too many of Verizon’s customers, and stay in the wireless giant’s good books.

Amp’d could attempt an entrance into non-cellular wireless technologies like Wi-Fi and WiMAX, a more likely possibility now that it has received funding from Intel and Qualcomm. The company might also want to explore the idea of offering some kind of converged service for cellular/Wi-Fi phones.

Whatever it does, Amp’d must continue to face the challenge of using the most up to date wireless technologies to deliver innovative service offerings, while trying not to offend its partner, Verizon Wireless.

The folks at Amp’d certainly have their work cut out for them, but the extra $150 million in funding should make it that much easier to succeed.
