Cingular Wireless Adds 1.7 Million Users in First Quarter
7:20 am on April 20, 2006 | Category: Business, Corporate, Wireless
America’s largest mobile phone carrier, Cingular Wireless, reported its first quarter financial results yesterday, announcing a net addition of 1.7 million subscribers in the first three months of the year.
Cingular’s income came in at $354 million, compared to a net loss of $240 million in the same period a year earlier, which was incurred by AT&T Wireless acquisition costs. Overall revenue increased by 9.1% to $8.98 billion, compared to $8.23 billion in Q1 2005.
Subscriber growth was the company’s biggest victory in the first quarter, but they also need to focus on increasing revenue in the future. Average revenue per user declined by 2.3% from last year, to close at $48.48. This is largely due to declining voice costs, and will need to be corrected by offering more advanced 3G wireless services, such as music and video.
