Clearwire Launches Digital Phone VoIP Service
7:00 am on April 23, 2006 | Category: VoIP, Wireless Technology
Global wireless broadband provider, Clearwire, has just become the newest player in America’s VoIP telephony market.
The company recently rolled out a digital voice service in Stockton, California, in a bold attempt at breaking into the highly competitive VoIP industry, and going up against the likes of AT&T, EarthLink, and Vonage. Clearwire is likely hoping to use its existing advantage in the broadband industry to expand into the 27 U.S. metro areas and 200 cities that it already serves.
The VoIP service itself was developed in partnership with Bell Canada, and promises exceptional call quality, as well as a good range of enhanced features. What really distinguishes Clearwire, however, is the potential of integrating VoIP with wireless broadband in the most unique and service-enhancing way possible.

This is an excellent selling feature for the MDU/MFU space. Apartment communities are eating up the ability to purchase cable and Internet services at wholesale rates and pass along the savings to their residents with a small rent increase that also includes a mark-up. This increases their revenue and improves the image of the property, so with the popularity of VoIP this is just another way to bundle necessary services and increase residuals.
