According to a recent article in BusinessWeek, 2006 will be seen as the year that mobile phones and PDAs were truly merged into a single device.

As the standalone PDA market has steadily declined, and cell phone have demanded more advanced features, there has been more and more incentive for handset makers in integrate features like mobile computing, email, gaming, digital cameras, and digital music playback into their wireless voice devices.

And according to BusinessWeek reporter, Arik Hesseldahl, this is the year that converged devices will truly overtake standalone phones and PDAs in the minds of consumers.

“Future historians will all be able to agree that by the year 2006, the wireless phone and PDA had completed the first stages of their evolutionary marriage,” Hesseldahl claims.
