Developers Make Use of Movies and Television in Mobile Games
6:30 am on April 23, 2006 | Category: Business, Mobile Devices
Mobile game developers are clamoring at the gates of Hollywood, hoping to obtain licenses to capitalize on popular movies and television programs in their games.
The companies have recognized the fact that being associated with a television franchise can vastly improve a game’s chances of success in a highly crowded market. Sony Pictures Games Studio vice president, Shalom Mann, for example, says that 68 of the 100 most popular mobile games are based on some kind of pre-established media license.
The use of television programming within games will likely serve to further enhance conversion between the different types of media, especially as 3G mobile television services become more popular among consumers.
