In an effort to attract more subscribers for the start of the Major League Baseball season, ESPN has significantly reduced the price of its specialty multimedia handset.

The Sanyo ESPN phone will now cost just $99, compared to the original retail price of nearly $500. This obviously makes for a significant reduction in the entry-level cost of subscribing to the ESPN Mobile service.

As for future plans the popular television network is planning to launch at least one more handset sometime this summer, and says that it will “continue to look at” the idea of offering an unlimited wireless data option with its service.
