America’s FCC has agreed to compromise on plans to conduct anonymous bidding in its next wireless spectrum auction.

The federal telecom regulator still plans to withhold some information about bidders, but has agreed to reveal details about which companies are approved to bid in an auction, so long as proper competition requirements are met. The FCC will also reveal bid amounts for each license in an auction, and set $2.06 as the minimum amount raised for an auction to be valid.

The idea of totally anonymous bidding was proposed to prevent unfair collusion between wireless carriers, but was met with significant resistance within the industry, due to its goal of keeping companies totally in the dark about the bidding process.
