Nokia and iPass Developing Wi-Fi Software for Mobile Phones

Nokia and iPass are currently in the process of developing a client software for dual-mode cell phones, which will allow users to connect to public Wi-Fi hotspots anywhere in the world.

iPass currently offers user access to about 50,000 hotspots around the globe via a single account. The Redwood Shores, California-based company had formed partnerships with a huge number of Wi-Fi operators, and provides client software for those using its service over a Windows or Macintosh Laptop, or Windows-powered mobile device.

A new version of the software is now being designed for mobile phones based on the Nokia Series 80 and Series 60 software platforms. It is set to be available for the Nokia 9300i and 9500 models by the end of the summer, and on E-Series handsets by the end of the year.
