Nokia has increased its estimate for its average handset price last quarter, sending the company’s shares up on the Helsinki Stock Exchange.

In January, Nokia predicted an average selling price of slightly under $120, but this has now been raised to an even $125.

Nokia explained the new forecast in a statement, saying that lower-priced phones has made up a lower-than-expected portion of their sales in the period, with a greater number of customers buying the more expensive devices. After the statement’s release on Tuesday, Nokia shot up nearly 4% to €17.60.

This is the second time that the handset giant has revised its sales forecasts in as many months, after they raised their overall market growth expectation for 2006 from 10% to 15% last month.
