RIM Plans BlackBerry Launch in China

Ontario-based wireless device maker, Research In Motion, announced yesterday that it hopes to release its popular BlackBerry device in the Chinese market by the middle of this year.
There is obvious growth potential for the BlackBerry in China, especially if RIM can come to an agreement with the country’s top wireless provider, China Mobile.
“Our talks with China Mobile are going very well. We are working very closely with them and a deal is expected very soon, probably by the middle of this year,” said the company’s Asia Pacific vice president, Norm Lo, in an interview.
Lo went on to say that RIM hopes to launch the BlackBerry service with 100 new carriers globally by the end of this year. He declined to name the carriers but did say that at least 10 of them would be in the Asia Pacific region.
Research In Motion already has deals with over 160 carriers in 60 countries, including 21 in 11 Asian countries.
