Sprint Nextel Corp. has just launched a new wireless messaging service, which allows users of Sprint cell phones to send SMS text messages to any landline phone.

Text-to-speech technology is used to convert the alphanumeric messages into voice recordings, then play them to the recipient as soon as they pick up the phone.

After years of neglecting SMS services, Sprint has recently begun to put a lot more attention into enriching its text messaging service portfolio. The carrier has launched advanced SMS services, including MMS and voice-based messaging, as well as IM services with AOL, Yahoo, and MSN.
