Verizon Taps Heavy.com for V Cast Mobile Video Content

Verizon Wireless and web publisher, Heavy.com, have agreed on a distribution partnership, where some of Heavy’s video content will by syndicated on the V Cast mobile video network.
Heavy will be given its own channel on the V Cast network, which will feature nine sub-channels, including “Hip to Hop,” “Dudes and Duds of Rock,” “More Cowbell,” “Motocross Your Heart and Hope Not to Die,” and “Sk8ter H8ter.” The majority of the content is targeted towards male users aged 18 to 34.
This latest deal represents the latest step in Verizon’s quest to improve the selection of video content available on its V Cast wireless multimedia network.
For the moment this content will be offered on a subscription-based plan, but will likely be monetized with mobile advertising in the future, according to Heavy’s general manager for mobile, Alex Green.
“What I’m hearing from the ad sales team is that a lot of our advertisers want to reach end users through mobile devices, because it’s extremely personal,” Green said. “You don’t have the same challenges associated with regular Web sites about standing out.”
In the mean time, the Heavy.com content is being tested by Verizon, and is expected to hit the V Cast network by the beginning of summer.
