Broadband phone provider, Vonage, announced on Thursday that it has reached a major milestone in equipping its users with Enhanced 911 emergency service.

The E911 feature, which automatically links a caller’s phone number with their physical address, is now available to 1 million Vonage VoIP subscribers.

Since the FCC ordered E911 compliance from all VoIP providers last year, Vonage has worked with Public Safety Answering Points throughout the US and other markets, to ensure fully functional emergency identification service. It has also set up a special emergency call center for American customers who use Wi-Fi phones, and aren’t directly connected to a landline.

“With one million subscriber lines turned up with E911 service in just nine months, Vonage is leading the fastest nomadic E911 deployment in telecommunications history,” said Vonage chairman and CEO, Jeffrey Citron, in a statement.
