The Weather Channel has announced plans to offer special forecast clips for selected cities, on both its website (www.weather.com), and via mobile phones.

The forecasts will be offered for 25 top U.S. cities, starting on May 1, and will come complete with walking, talking, and gesturing meteorologists, just like the forecasts on television. The web-based video clips will be 90-seconds long, while the mobile clips will take a minute.

Costs of implementing the new service will be covered by advertising, meaning that it will be free for all users. The Weather Channel’s parent company, Landmark Communications Inc., believes that the new forecasts will generate a profit within a year.
