Wireless Web Browsing Becomes More Popular in 35+ Demographic
7:00 am on April 24, 2006 | Category: Web Services, Mobile Devices
A worldwide increase in cell phone use among those aged 35 and up is increasing the popularity reach of wireless web browsing, a new study suggests.
Ipsos Insight’s “The Face of the Web” study shows that massive cell phone growth in 2005 was largely driven by older users buying the devices. Older users are also becoming more interested in non-voice wireless features, such as mobile web browsing, with 27% of 35 to 54-year-old users having surfed the internet on their phones.
Mobile internet still has a much higher penetration (36%) among 18 to 34-year-old cell phone subscribers, but is growing much faster among those aged 35+.
“This older age group is really starting to explore more on their cell phone and getting comfortable. Whether it’s text messaging, e-mailing or Internet browsing, our research has found that they are using their cell phones for more than just voice calling,” Ipsos Insight senior research manager, Adam Wright.
