Current Communications Board Member Explains Broadband over Power Lines

Current Communication Group board member, Avram Miller, used USA Today’s recent CEO roundtable discussion as an opportunity to speak about Current’s efforts to develop a new delivery system for broadband internet access.

The company has developed a technology called BoPL (Broadband over Power Lines) to deliver high-speed internet access over ordinary power lines, and make it possible to access the web from any normal electrical plug, without requiring Ethernet cables or a Wi-Fi network.

“I can report that it (BoPL) does work,” Miller said at the discussion. “Together with (power company) TXU we’re doing Dallas — every plug in every house.”

Miller went on to stress the energy-saving benefits of accessing broadband over power lines. “This technology can reduce the amount of power used by 10% and greenhouse gases by 30% by managing peaks and load-shedding,” he said.

In addition to his role at Current, Miller is also the founder and CEO of Avram Miller Co., a business development and consulting firm.
