In an effort to expand its mobile operating system into the world’s biggest cell phone market, Microsoft has signed a co-development agreement with China-based TechFaith Wireless (which is backed by Qualcomm).

The two companies will work together on a number of smartphones and entertainment devices, as well as collaborating on the sales and marketing of Windows Mobile devices.

“Our strategy is to grow with China’s information industry on a win-win basis. We wish to facilitate the entry of software and IT products and services from China-based companies into the international market,” commented Microsoft executive Tim Chen on the recent deal.
