Motorola Hopes to Release Q Smartphone Next Week

Motorola CEO, Ed Zander revealed on Tuesday that his company is hoping to launch its much-anticipated “Q†smartphone sometime next week.
The new EV-DO-enabled mobile phone was originally designed as a competitor to the BlackBerry, Research in Motion’s popular wireless email device.
In the past few months, however, the mobile email market has become a lot more crowded with Nokia unveiling its E-Series enterprise-level smartphones, and new Palm Treo devices proving more sophisticated than ever.
The Motorola Q, often perceived as the wildcard in this highly competitive market, has now been delayed several times to make last minute improvements to the design and performance.
At this point, it looks like Motorola and cell phone carrier, Verizon Wireless, are finally ready to launch the Q and hope to make a big splash in the market. If they succeed, there could be a new up-and-coming player in the wireless email market. If the device doesn’t live up to its reputation, however, it could well be the biggest disappointment of the year for customers and shareholders alike.
