Motorola Merges Mobile Software Development Units

In an effort to simplify the process of developing software for its products, Motorola has decided to merge its three application development networks into a single organization.

The current networks – called Motocoder, Iden, and Horizon – will be rolled into a combined entity called Motodev. This will role the development process for consumer and business mobile applications, as well as home entertainment software for set-top boxes into a single easy-to-manage package.

This will hopefully give developers more of an all-in-one experience, and encourage integration between different types of mobile applications.

Cell phone software is expected to become an increasingly important sector in the years to come, as devices become more sophisticated, and advanced mobile operating systems gain popularity.
