Next FCC Auction Could Re-Shape America’s Wireless Industry

With the Federal Communications Commission set to kick off a huge new wireless spectrum auction next month, analysts are speculating about a reshuffling of the American cell phone industry.
The upcoming auction is expected to attract not only established carriers like Verizon Wireless, Cingular, and Sprint, but also new players in the market, including a number of major cable operators.
Many industry watchers believe that the addition of new competitors will hugely change the landscape of the wireless industry. Cable companies will be eager to grab their share of the mobile television pie, causing the 3G market to become much more crowded, and potentially leading to lower prices for consumers.
